I have always been very creative. When I was younger I would express my creativity through arts and crafts, but from around the age of 10 I have expressed my creativity digitally instead. Some of the first media projects I did were photo slideshows of places I'd been to, short films and music videos with my friends. I loved creating these productions and this is when I first realised that I would like to work within the media industry. Studying Art and Graphic design at GCSE furthered my interest, allowing me to create a set design model of The Wizard of Oz and explore vintage fashion. I am currently in my second year at The Henley College, studying A Level Photography and an Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production. I absolutely love going to college and studying my courses, particularly the Creative Media course. I have learnt a lot from it and we have studied a wide range of elements in media in the past year from documentaries, music videos and stop motion. Studying different media areas has allowed me to independently experience various roles such as a scriptwriter, editor, director and set decorator. In one of my short films, I created a period drama set in the 1960s. It was highlighted that I had a keen eye for detail through how I had decorated the frame for some of the shots in the film, and the way I had dressed my characters. Since January 2012, I have volunteered with 'ASD Family Help', a local autistic charity. Working with this charity presented many opportunities over the years, including various opportunities with the BBC. In October 2012, I was invited to go to the live filming of BBC Children in Need and represent the charity. I have also made a couple of television appearances on 'BBC South Today' relating to the charities' work. I was interviewed last year by BBC Radio Berkshire about the charity and the work they do. In the past year, I have taken on the role of putting together the quarterly newsletter and taking photographs of events and activities. In the summer of 2016 after finishing my GCSE's, I took part in NCS (National Citizen Service). Having the chance to specialise, allowed me to focus on working within the media. During NCS, I created a promotional video for 'Maidenhead Food Share'. Not only did this benefit the community, it benefited me personally, as it taught me new filming and editing techniques. Gaining experience within the industry has developed my passion. During a placement at The Wilde Theatre at South Hill Park, Bracknell, I helped build and decorate the set on the stage for their Easter production. Another placement at Hospital Radio Reading allowed me to shadow presenters on various shows, teaching me a lot about radio broadcasting; the technical aspects such as how the equipment works, presenting styles a such as how to announce songs and how jingles are made up. My interest in the media industry also influences how I spend my spare time. I love visiting filming locations and sets. I have been inside the house used in Gavin and Stacey, the village used in Goodnight Mr Tom, the Doctor Who Experience and Warner Brothers Tour. In 2015 I visited the set of Coronation Street. It was an amazing experience that I learnt a lot from. I was so fascinated by it, I dragged my parents back up to Manchester to visit it again! It was amazing to go behind the scenes of these places. I thoroughly enjoy the media course I am currently studying in college. However, I cannot choose a specialism that I enjoy the most, as I enjoy everything! I would like to continue my studies in media in a similar course to what I am doing now; that allows me to explore a wide range of roles and responsibilities within the media industry, and by doing so, I should find my deep passion that I will pursue as a career.
