Rosaria Hollywood - Ex Work Experience at Coronation Street
Rosie Mullins-Hoyle - Production Designer at Coronation Street:
THE HEXAGON READING:
The Hexagon is a large theatre in Reading and it is the main theatre. The Hexagon is host to lots of shows including, musicals, pantomimes and concerts from both big and new artists. I think the Hexagon would be a good place to do my work experience as it is a large professional theatre which will give me a good insight and good experience into how theatres really run in the industry. It is local too which is another advantage.
I sent this email on the 27th January. By Tuesday I still had no reply so I called The Hexagon asking if there was anyone I could talk to about work experience. The lady on the phone suggested emailing Sarah Cox. I am writing this on Friday 3rd February and I have still not had a reply.
THE WOKINGHAM THEATRE:
The Wokingham Theatre is a small theatre in Wokingham. It is run by volunteers and is host to a variety of shows throughout the year. I have a few friends that are part of the youth theatre here and they also run theatre groups for adults. It would be good if I could do my work experience here because this is the closest theatre to me and it will be good to be around a small number of people so I can get help if I need it.
I also sent this email on the 27th, and still had no reply til Tuesday. I called them on Tuesday and spoke to a man called Bob. Bob was very keen to let me do work experience, but he told me that it is run by volunteers, and a lot of the set making is done during the week by retired people who like to do it in their spare time. He told me I would be more than welcome to come along anyway, but it would only be for Tuesday and Thursday. He suggested looking elsewhere to see if there was anywhere I could go for the whole week instead, but I would be welcome to come and help at Wokingham any other time if I wanted to.
SOUTH HILL PARK ARTS CENTRE BRACKNELL:
South Hill Park Arts Centre is a big place in Bracknell. It showcases many forms of art, such as paintings and exhibitions. It also has it's own comedy club, bar and theatre. The theatre is quite big and professional. I think this would also be a good place to do my work experience because it is a popular place that is well known to locals.
This email was also sent on Friday 27th January. By Tuesday I still had not got a reply so as Bob from Wokingham theatre suggested, I called them seeing if there was a chance I could go for the week. The lady on the phone suggested talking to Mark Hooper (head of creative learning) so I emailed him. Mark emailed back saying I could do a placement at South Hill Park for the week! He copied in two set designers (Joe and Victoria) and we are emailing each other about the placement and getting the forms together.
